The Black Student Union (BSU) is an organization on campus that focuses on bringing together people of color. We are interested in representing, advocating and providing support to people of color at UMass. With your help we can host more events to bring together people of color and help them feel like UMass is their home.
Every year we've hosted an event called Poetry Jam during homecoming weekend. This event focuses on showcasing the different talents people of color from the five college area have. These students have performed things like poetry, rap and interpretive dancing. This gives people an opportunity to practice and share their craft while gaining support and encouragement from all around them.
We would like to do more events like this that exposes people to the different talents of people of color. With your help we can do so much more to advocate for people of color and their talents.
The Black Student Union is hoping to be able to attend the black solidarity conference. The black solidarity conference is an annual conference that brings together undergraduates of color to discuss the issues having to do with the African diaspora. Our organization has not been able to attend this conference for years because of lack of funding. We hope to be able to bring executive board members as well as general body members to this conference with little to no cost on the individual.
