Who We Are
For the second year running, UMass Amherst Engineering will compete in the annual ASME Student Design Competition. This team, compiled from the sophomore, junior, and senior engineering classes, contains some of the most driven and engaged students you’ll find at UMass. Between us, the team has experience from past design competitions, relevant internships, and over a decade of programming experience. Every donation has a direct impact on student learning and helps us to send young engineers to the design competition and engineering conference.
The 2019 Competition - "The Pick and Place Race"
The ASME design competition for the upcoming year challenges students to create a robot capable of collecting balls of varying sizes for return to a collection area. These balls will be balanced atop tube stands, and points are awarded for successfully securing control of a ball for two seconds. Further points are awarded for the successful return of the ball to the collection area, and points are deducted for knocking balls off their stands.
Challenge specifics are available at: https://www.asme.org/wwwasmeorg/media/ResourceFiles/Events/Competitions/2019-SDC-Competition-Rules.pdf
The team has already begun the design process and will start prototyping as soon as possible. The goal is to engage as many people as possible, and every donation helps the team accomplish that.
Our Thanks
Money raised will go towards parts and travel, but ultimately it will provide valuable experience for eager students. Your generous donations allow us to hone our skills and hopefully represent UMass Amherst Engineering well in competition. The team is grateful for this opportunity and those who make it happen. Thank you for your support.
