SSLS, formerly known as the Eco-Rep symposium, is an annual conference that brings together 200 sustainability-minded students from across the Northeast. Students discuss new methods and activities for fostering or expanding sustainability efforts at their respective institutions. Students leave the symposium inspired and motivated to tackle sustainability issues at their own college or university, and just as the Eco-Rep program* at UMass Amherst trains leaders in this field, the symposium trains and educates these future sustainability superstars.
Your support of the UMass Amherst SSLS will make it the greatest symposium yet! We are excited to exchange ideas, share projects and get energized for the vital sustainability work at hand. However, hosting 200 students will not be easy! 100% of your contribution will be used for the operation of the symposium. From workshop room rental fees to feeding hungry travelers organic and local meals, your support will make this enriching experience possible.
*The UMass Amherst Eco-Rep Program is an academic course and leadership training program that seeks to foster environmental literacy within the campus community and translate that new understanding into more sustainable behavior. An average of 60 students per semester - across 7 classes in 4 residential areas - enroll in the program, making it the largest of its kind in the Northeast and among the largest in the country. Eco-Reps raise awareness about sustainability issues among their peers, establish sustainability related projects and events, and assume leadership positions within Sustainable UMass and the wider University, including peer-facilitating the Eco-Rep program.
