Share The Experience: The Third Annual Women in Sports Media Symposium will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019. Over the past two years, UMass sports journalism students have put together a day-long professional development event featuring eye-opening presentations about the history and perseverance of successful women in the sports media industry. With the help of female pioneers like Melissa Ludtke, ESPN’s Keri Potts and Patricia Mays and Atlantic-10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade, among many others, we successfully created a supportive and educational event for those looking to develop a career in sports media. 

With your help, the Symposium will continue to grow, invite new voices and perspectives and educate more students on the importance of equality in sports. Please consider donating to help us keep this education, informal and career developing event free to all attendees of the Third Annual Women in Sports Symposium. 

Mission Statement: The sports industry is home to the most exclusive of boys’ clubs, and women in sports media face one of the biggest gender gaps of any other career. Women in sports, by nature, have to be headstrong and self-confident. For years, they fought to get fair access to locker rooms to do their jobs. Today, they’re still fighting, but for deserved legitimacy, bylines and the right to go on television without being objectified and harassed on Twitter. The mission of this symposium is to provide a forum for educating students about the career options, opportunities and challenges for women in sports media. By sharing these experiences, we can all empower each other.
