The Plant-Based Nutrition Club will be hosting our joint guest lecture event with Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn and Dr. Michael Klaper on April 13th at 6 pm.
We are working very hard to make this event free for students. This event will also be open to the general public, either for free or for a small entrance fee, depending on how much money we raise. The Plant-Based Nutrition Club is all about education surrounding the plant-based world: nutritional benefits, sustainability, love for animals, and tips on going plant-based. We hold meetings on plant-based topics, as well as events such as cooking demonstrations, nature walks, and picnics. Both Dr. Esselstyn's and Dr. Klaper's expertise is directly in line with what we want to educate people about in the plant-based world.
Dr. Esselstyn received his medical degree in 1961 and is an inspiration to our students in many ways. Along with his many accomplishments and awards in medicine and nutrition, he also holds an Olympic gold medal in rowing and was awarded Bronze Star as Army Surgeon in Vietnam. The main focus, of course, is his work in educating the public about the health benefits of a plant-based diet and his best selling book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease: The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-Based Cure.
Like Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. Klaper has been practicing medicine for decades, as he graduated from medical school in 1972 and began studying plant-based nutrition 10 years later. He is a well-known speaker and has given presentations at numerous health, medical and wellness centers. He has been a nutrition advisor for NASA and sits on many advising boards; he is also a published author, with his most popular book being Vegan Nutrition: Pure and Simple. Dr. Klaper is the founding director of the Institute of Nutrition Education and Research.
PNUT has presented on the research and impact of Dr. Esselstyn and Dr. Klaper's work. Many of us have long been in awe of both of them, their research and all they have accomplished for the plant-based world. It would mean the world to us if you would come to our event and help with our fundraising efforts to get them to come to UMass!
You did a grape job donating to our cause and helping us achieve grapeness! You are appreciated!
