The Gift of Books for Emerging Scholars
For Parker Sweet ’21, ’22MPH, acceptance into the Emerging Scholars Program was affirmation of his potential. When asked to reflect on his experience Parker shared that the Emerging Scholars program helped him to access a range of opportunities. Recalling his earliest days in the program as a first-year student and what it was like to receive the gift of books, Parker shared that it was an incredibly impactful message from the community he was joining. This gift demonstrated that others believed in him and his development.
Many participants in the Emerging Scholars Program also say that the gift of books, supplied by a community of Emerging Scholars alumni and friends, is deeply meaningful. This gift is symbolic of the close-knit community that the Emerging Scholars Program offers its members. Students with strong academic and leadership potential who are first-generation and/or underrepresented college students are provided with access to faculty staff and peer mentoring; co-curricular resources and programming. Through these opportunities, Emerging Scholars are able to build on their strengths and experiences, create successful pathways to graduation, and cultivate transferrable skills for their future career paths.
As Friends and Alumni of this program, please join us in showing support to our new cohort of incoming Emerging Scholars by making a gift of any amount to the Emerging Scholars Book Fund. Your gift will help support and affirm a new generation of students and welcome them to this community.
