Every year, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers hosts a student design competition where teams from different schools design robots to compete in a challenge. This year, the competition is to design a robot capable of moving weight around an arena using only power generated from wind and solar, called "Harnessing the Wind and Sun again".
This year will mark the University of Massachusetts ASME Student Chapter's fifth year participating in the competition. One year we participated, the competition was to design a robot that could pick up miniature soccer balls and shoot them into a net. Unfortunately, due to electrical issues, the robot was unable to compete. Last year the robot needed to be able to pick up different sized balls off of pipes and bring them back to a starting area. The robot, again, wasn't fully functional due to electrical issues. We still managed to get a positive score and beat out over 15 other teams. This year we are aiming to keep the momentum and learn from our past mistakes to succeed in the competition!
By donating, you will be helping pay for the cost of the physical parts of the robot (electronics, framing, hardware, etc.), transportation to the competition, which is being held in Milwaukee, boarding for the team while at the competition, and tickets for the competition itself.
