The UMass Wind Ensemble (56 student musicians) and eight faculty members will travel to Quito, Ecuador on a performance/outreach tour in January 2024. This 9-day tour is the culmination of four years of collaboration between the UMass Music Department and La Banda Sinfónica Metropolitana de Quito and their conductor, Luis Alberto Castro, and the beginning of a new partnership with La Casa de la Música (https://www.casadelamusica.ec).
The Wind Ensemble and faculty will be performing multiple side-by-side concerts with Ecuadorian musicians, giving masterclasses, playing chamber music, and forming new friendships and partnerships. This kind of exchange is so important – we are not tourists! We are bringing music to share, and we are collaborating. ALL DONATED FUNDS WILL DIRECTLY BENEFIT STUDENTS AND LOWER THEIR TRAVEL EXPENSES.
