Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation

At the Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation, we build and support nurse-engineers teams who solve healthcare issues with the innovation of frontline nurses and the design expertise of engineers.

Our mission is to:

  • Untap the unique insights of nurses and engineers to address healthcare challenges at the forefront of patient care
  • Forge new pathways in interdisciplinary research and education to create an open forum for sharing and learning
  • Empower nurses and engineers to lead healthcare innovation for a healthier and more equitable future

The Center began in 2021 and since its inception has supported research by UMass Amherst Elaine Marieb College of Nursing and College of Engineering faculty pioneering new ways to innovate.

The Nurse-Engineer Approach: We are pioneering the powerful bidirectional real-time collaboration to identify healthcare issues, develop and refine solutions, assess outcomes, and make informed decisions to optimize the delivery of patient-centered healthcare.

Your contribution enables us to:

  • Increase fellowships and grants to fund undergraduate and graduate students
  • Fund lab technology and equipment for prototyping and testing
  • Broaden opportunities for UMass students, researchers, and collaborators to come together at our annual Symposium.
  • Support cutting-edge research!
