Support UMass Amherst AISC Steel Bridge Competition Team!

Who are we?

Hello and welcome to the UMass Steel Bridge Team donation page! Thank you for being here!

The AISC Steel Bridge Competition Team is a group of roughly 15 ambitious engineers whose goal is to design, fabricate, and construct a 21-foot-long steel bridge. In April, our team of engineers will travel to the regional competition at Roger Williams University, where we will face off against other schools to construct the most efficient bridge within the strict rules of the competition. Our bridge will then be tested on its ability to sustain a total load of 2500 pounds vertically and 75 pounds laterally. Judges will rank our bridge based on specific criteria such as construction speed, stiffness, structural efficiency, aesthetics, and more. 

If our bridge ranks well enough in our regional competition, we will be granted the opportunity to travel to the AISC Steel Bridge national finals.

The overall objective of our team is to proudly represent UMass Amherst at the AISC Competition, while also generating a long-term, positive environment in which aspiring engineers can grow and learn to thrive in a team setting. 

Current Team Status

The team is currently in the design phase working on bridge models, hand calculations, and drawings. Our design this year is focusing on improving the constructability of our bridge. We are hoping that we will be able to lower our construction time below 30 minutes, thus improving from last year and likely placing very high in the competition. 

Where Donations Will Go To?

Any donations we receive will be used to help us pay for housing/travel expenses, new tools, and registration fees. We would greatly appreciate any support you could give whether it be a donation or simply spreading the word about our organization. Doing so would make you a crucial factor in the success of our team!
