AIAS Freedom by Design Ramp

Who We Are

We are the UMass Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS), a passionate group of architecture majors dedicated to learning through action. Each year, our Freedom by Design team uses our design and building skills to make a tangible difference in our community, creating accessible, lasting structures that improve people’s daily lives.

What Your Contribution Supports

Every spring, our team designs and builds a custom accessibility ramp for a n area in our local community. Your donations go directly toward materials, tools, and construction supplies, allowing us to turn thoughtful design into meaningful change. Beyond the physical build, your support helps us foster hands-on learning, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of how architecture can serve everyone.

Our Goal

Our mission is twofold: to educate and empower UMass architecture students through real-world design-build experiences, and to uplift our community by enhancing accessibility for those in need. With your help, we can continue to bridge the gap between design education and community impact—one ramp at a time.
