BPGOAD Engagement Fund
The Black Professional and Graduate Organization of the Afro-Diaspora (BPGOAD) envisions a thriving community where Black, Afro-diasporic graduate students and professionals, and allies, are empowered to excel academically, grow professionally, be supported culturally, find community, and live joyfully. Rooted in the celebration of Afro-diasporic cultures and traditions, we foster belonging, wellness, and solidarity while strengthening equity and opportunity in higher education. Established independently in Fall 2025, and becoming an official UMass organization in February of 2026, to meet a long-standing need of creating a stronger, more connected, and more supportive community for Black and Afro diasporic graduate students on the UMass campus and in Western Massachusetts.
Your contribution directly fuels initiatives that strengthen the Afro diasporic graduate community, including:
Western Mass Black Graduation Celebration and Reception: Honoring the achievements, resilience, and brilliance of Black and Afro diasporic graduates with a culturally grounded, community-centered ceremony.
Printed Circulation of the BPGOAD Zine: A digital zine amplifying Black graduate student voices, stories, art, community events, culturally relevant resources, opportunities, and scholarship.
Emergency Support Fund: Rapid response financial assistance for students facing unexpected hardship, ensuring that crises do not derail academic or personal stability.
Future Initiatives for the Afro Diaspora: Programming, workshops, cultural events, scholarships, and community building efforts that nurture connection, wellness, and empowerment.
What do we stand for?
We stand firmly for community, solidarity, and educational nourishment. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps build a more equitable, joyful, and supportive environment for Black and Afro diasporic graduate students.
