Anca Romantan Communication Graduate International Research Fund

The Anca Romantan Communication Graduate International Research Fund honors the life of former assistant professor Anca Romantan. Dr. Romantan joined the faculty in 2006 and her work focused on media effects, social construction and amplification of environmental, technological and social risks, transnational social movements, globalization and e-democracy, social influence and persuasion, and research methodology. Her appointment to the department was universally received with excitement and a sense of magic, and her energy, courage and commitments to teaching and writing in the course of her illness, were bar none.

The graduate international research fund supports a graduate student in the Communication Department whose primary dissertation research site is outside the United States. This competitive grant given out annually, supports the student’s travel, living, and/or research expenses and is awarded based on the strength of the applicant’s academic performance and grant proposal.

Dr. Romantan leaves a rich legacy of rigorous, imaginative, and critical research and publication. Sadly, she passed away before she could realize many of her academic goals. But through this grant, Dr. Romantan’s work can continue and live on through future scholars.

Through the generosity of Dr. Romantan’s partner, Cornel Ban, we have been able to offer the grant in her memory, but we would like to increase it and to continue to keep this opportunity open to others with your help.
