UMass Press Regional Book Fund, Fall 2025
In the US, 500,000 to 1 million new books are released from publishers each year. If we include self-published titles, that number quickly increases. At UMass Press, we are honored to publish books about New England, and we take the handling of our authors' books very seriously. In such a crowded market, it can be really tough (and expensive) to break through the noise and be sure our authors and their books find their readers.
That’s where our Regional Books Fundraiser comes in. With generous donor support (and a 2-to-1 match!), we fund the critical early promotion that helps our regional titles find their audience. Recently we've changed our approach in an attempt to get books directly in the hands and minds of readers and booksellers. Marketing activities such as printing and distributing advanced reader copies, hosting Goodreads giveaways, listing titles on NetGalley and Edelweiss, and targeted advertising all work together to help our regional books break through the publishing noise to get attention. To learn more about how these activities contribute to getting regional books attention, check out our blog post How We Help Regional Books Get Noticed: Behind the Scenes at UMass Press.
If you're curious about what our authors have to say about the impact of the Regional Books Fund and the importance of regional books, check out our blog post What Authors Are Saying About the Regional Books Fund.
Thank you for supporting UMass Press and our regional titles and authors!
